More than 10,000 teachers across Nigeria have successfully registered on the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) digital portal for the Batch A Professional Qualifying Examination scheduled for May 14 to 16, 2026.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this development in an interview on Tuesday. She described the high number of registrations as a clear indication of teachers’ growing confidence in the new digital platform and its ability to efficiently manage nationwide registration and licensing activities.
The TRCN digital portal was officially launched in September 2025 with the backing of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa. It marks a significant step towards modernising teacher registration, licensing, and certification processes in the country.
Dr. Soyombo acknowledged that some users encountered challenges during the initial phase of the portal’s deployment. She explained that these difficulties were primarily caused by heavy user traffic and surging demand after the nationwide rollout, coupled with ongoing system upgrades and the shift from the old manual processes to a fully digital system.
“The early teething problems were mainly due to overwhelming user traffic following the national launch, continuous improvements to enhance performance and security, and the natural adjustment period as teachers transitioned from manual to digital registration,” she stated.
However, the registrar affirmed that the platform is now functioning smoothly and without any major disruptions. She highlighted that the successful registration of over 10,000 teachers for the upcoming examination demonstrates the system’s reliability and efficiency.
“The TRCN digital registration portal is operating effectively and continues to serve teachers across the country seamlessly,” she said.
Dr. Soyombo stressed that the impressive registration figures provide clear evidence that the digital initiative is working as intended. She described the initial challenges as a normal part of the transition process rather than any fundamental flaw in the system.
She reiterated that the official TRCN digital portal remains the only authorised and transparent channel for teacher registration, licensing, and certification in Nigeria.
The registrar also expressed appreciation to teachers for their patience and understanding during the adjustment period. She assured them that the council is committed to continuously improving and strengthening the platform.
Additionally, TRCN clarified that it has never authorised any bank or third party to sell registration forms. All registrations must be completed exclusively through the official digital portal to ensure transparency and prevent fraudulent activities.
